New page and new directory! March 16, 1999I have three new accounts for development (in the new centiry and new millennium): The Imperial House of Sellassie, Sellassie International and Euro-Sellassie. I place the links to thopse new sites, but they will be used in the summer for several projects of educatinal nature. First one -- Ethiopian Church, past, present and future.
If you read some of my writing from "HIM" on the structure of the traditional (premodern) society, you know that Monarchy, Church and Nation were the pillars of the state. The Revolutionary Age dismissed it all, but is there something we should remember and keep? Should we take another look at the foundations of the past which were serving history for so long? Can we go beyond modern political correctness and examine what "authocracy" or "theology" mean to us?
Modern Age is a novelty (two centuries) and already shows the signs of decay (contrary to the popular opinion, new fundamentalism and nationalism are the products of the modernity and even postmodernity). To this day we dabate the topic of separation of the state and religion. We do not allow to pray in school, but we all pray there after the shootings. Is there any public presence of religion without becoming the state religion? What is our civic state where we nevertheless ask our presedents and judges to swear on the Bible?
Democracy gives us freedoms of expression for ideas, not opinions. It is not about voting, but the EXCHANGE. Voting is the last instrument when we can't agree, not the first thing to do. If America indeed believes that US is the leading power in the next century, perhaps we should look at the world which is not Americanized yet. You will find many cultures which are still using many features of the traditional society. What do we know about it?
